A white t-shirt is just so much more than, umm, a white t-shirt. It can pull your wardrobe together in a way that nothing else can. It can make an outfit more relaxed, and can somehow always fill that gap when you don’t know what else would work when you are trying to pull an outfit together. The two rules I always stick to when hunting for a new t-shirt:
- It must be 100% cotton (or even better, go for organic)
- It must have a ribbed crew neck that fits close to your neck (rather than a wider neckline)
Stick to these 2 rules and your t-shirt will look more premium than it probably is, without you ever needing to spend a lot of money. And don’t forget ladies, never ever wear with a white bra, it will always show through (and will lose your premium vibe!!) Stick to a bra that matches your skin tone.
As with everything, there are so many options when it comes to shapes, and you need to work out which would go best with your body shape, and the clothes you wear often. Do you tend to stick to more of a slim fit bottom half? If so, go for a looser style t shirt on top. Are you straight up & down? Then go for a boxy shape t-shirt as this will create more shape in your body. A relaxed style t shirt is the most commonly worn, and the most flattering (for the majority of body shapes.)
Check the inspiration outfits below – Each one is more of a loose style, and can be worn tucked in, tied up, hanging loose, with tailoring over it, or a statement coat, with a mini skirt or wide leg trousers. The t-shirt is the key item that makes each outfit looked pulled together & clean looking. And don’t forget about our friend, the black tee. It can do a very similar job, but there is something about white that keeps the whole look very crisp & effortless, and can lift the whole outfit.
